AllyKatzz, the popular online community for tween girls, has announced that they will host the Inaugural National Tween Summit, "Can't Vote, Can Change" to be held October 2009 in Washington,
D.C.
No word yet whether the First Tweens, Sasha and Malia, will make an appearance.
Why focus on tweens? Here's the scoop:
The National Tween Summit will provide a forum for members of the education, policy, youth marketing & media worlds to meet with girls and their families to discuss the issues that matter most.
Tweens are a increasingly influential generation who spend an estimated $51 billion annually. Here are some other quick tween factoids:
- Tween girls hold considerable sway over an additional $170 billion spent on them by parents and family;
- Tween girls have been the presiding force behind the success of today's top grossing movies ("High School Musical"), book sales ("Twilight") and music sales (Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers);
- Approximately 4 million tween girls will be eligible to vote for the first time in the 2012 election -- meaning their opinions now will help shape election outcomes and policy decisions in the years ahead.
