Dizzywood, the popular virtual world world for tweens owned by ROCKETpaperscissors, has launched a new pro-social project called "Quests for Change."
The program is comprised of a series of virtual charity events that teach important values through activities which players undertake online, and then directs them to websites where they can learn more about impacting change in the real world.
Here are just a couple of the featured Quests for Change activities for kids:
- Volunteer your time at a local hospital or facility that supports families with sick children, such as Ronald McDonald House Charities.
You can read stories to sick kids, help prepare meals for families,
host movie and pizza nights, organize art projects for patients, clean
kitchen and play areas, and assist in maintaining gardens and
landscaping.
- Get involved with an emergency response organization, such as Red Cross Youth. You can participate in disaster preparation in your local community, take first aid, water safety and babysitting training classes, help with blood drives, and learn about other cultures by assembling Red Cross school chests.
This is a fantastic and timely initiative. Last week as part of the inauguration festivities, President Obama called on Americans to work together and rebuild our country through community service.
The Dizzywood "Quest for Change" program is a great way for parents and/or teachers to provide avenues and opportunities for kids to answer this call and get actively engaged in a service project.
