Club Penguin, the wildly popular virtual world owned by Disney, has re-launched a new pro-social holiday project called "Coins for Change." The initiative, started last year, kicks-off tomorrow and runs through December 22nd.
Here's how the program works: As Club Penguin members play in the virtual world of ice and penguins, they earn virtual coins that they can then donate to Coins for Change.
At the end of project, a total of one million (real, not virtual!) dollars will be donated to a variety of social causes. But here's the cool part, Club Penguin members get to help to decide how to split the money.
Last year more than 2.5 million players donated in excess of two billion virtual coins which resulted in donations to the Elizabeth Glaser
Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the World Wildlife Fund
(WWF) and Free The Children.
This is a fantastic program that provides kids with an opportunity to play with purpose, develop a better understanding of the world around them and help other kids in need.
